Regionalliga Bayern: Würzburg stays in the race
Würzburg steamrolls Burghausen – everything remains open in the promotion race
On matchday 32 of the Regionalliga Bayern, Würzburger Kickers defeated SV Wacker Burghausen 4:1, keeping the pressure high in the season finale. With two games left, the gap to league leaders Nürnberg II is only three points, while Burghausen remains eighth.
Würzburg capitalizes on its superiority early
From the start, Würzburg controlled the match, while Burghausen often appeared too stretched out, especially off the ball. The lead after 23 minutes matched the flow of the game: Nischalke followed up after a rebound from the goalkeeper and lofted the ball into the box, where Bonga headed in to make it 1:0. Even after that, Burghausen rarely found relief. Würzburg remained more present in the decisive areas, won second balls, and kept the tempo high—without becoming hectic.
Nischalke and Berisha decide the match
Immediately after the break, the Kickers added another: This time the assist came from Bonga, Nischalke headed in to make it 2:0 in the 46th minute. The 3:0 seemed to have fallen in the 54th minute, but Tim Kraus's goal was disallowed because Nischalke had previously committed an offensive foul—a scene that often decides in such penalty area duels whether a goal stands or not.
Würzburg was not deterred by this. In the 58th minute, Berisha accelerated down the left and finished with technical precision—the ball bounced in off the right post to make it 3:0. After a free kick, Nischalke increased the lead to 4:0 in the 72nd minute, completing his brace.
Burghausen managed only a consolation goal in the final phase: After a confusing scene in the Würzburg penalty area, Sorge scored in the 85th minute to make it 1:4.
The win keeps Würzburg in the promotion race
With this clear home win, Würzburg remains within striking distance of the top: The gap to Nürnberg II is only three points, and with two games remaining, everything is still open. Especially in the Regionalliga Bayern, every point is particularly valuable in the final sprint, because the championship does not automatically guarantee direct promotion to the 3. Liga every season; instead, the path upward is determined by the respective promotion regulations (BFV).
