Unterhaching defeats Bayreuth in the last minute – 3:2 in the promotion race

SpVgg Unterhaching won 3:2 against SpVgg Bayreuth on matchday 31 of the Regionalliga Bayern. In a match with three goals from set pieces, the guests turned an early deficit before the break – and secured the victory only in stoppage time through Alexander Winkler (90.+8).

Bayreuth thus remains at 37 points in 12th place in the table. For Unterhaching, the away win is of particular importance in the race for promotion.

Bayreuth starts strong – early lead after corner

Bayreuth made the first statement early: after a corner, Deniz Koc scored in the 4th minute to make it 1:0. The hosts thus got into the game better and forced Unterhaching to open up the match quickly.

Unterhaching turns the game before the break – penalty and header after set piece

Unterhaching then found their way into the match better – and took advantage of two situations that Bayreuth did not defend cleanly. In the 26th minute, Jeroen Krupa converted a penalty to make it 1:1 after Alexander Seidel had committed a handball. Shortly before halftime, the guests struck again after a corner: Manuel Stiefler headed in the 45th minute to make it 2:1.

The fact that Unterhaching turned the game around before the break despite being behind underlined their efficiency with set pieces – and gave the guests a psychological advantage at halftime in a hard-fought duel.

Bucher counters after the break – volley from 25 meters

Bayreuth responded after the restart and came back. Again, the goal came after a corner: Unterhaching initially cleared forward, Leon Bucher took the rebound directly and scored with a volley from 25 meters to make it 2:2. The equalizer reflected the open course of the game – and kept Bayreuth in the match despite the temporary setback.

Winkler decides the match in stoppage time

In the final phase, the match remained close until Unterhaching scored the decisive goal in stoppage time: Alexander Winkler scored in the 90.+8 minute to make it 3:2. For Unterhaching, these are "big points" in the promotion race – also because the victory came in a match that was on a knife edge for a long time.
