A Choir of Echoes: When Memory Becomes Dance
In Tanthe in Ansbach, the body transforms into a memory of movement, rhythm, and silence. A Choir of Echoes by Chiara Fersini inquires what people carry within themselves when they leave their homeland – and what remains when language, familiar faces, and belonging become insecure.
A Choreographic Ritual Between Dance and Memory
The production connects contemporary dance with the ancient healing traditions of Southern Italy. At its core is the phenomenon of Tarantism, whose ecstatic dances understand the body as a site of crisis, liberation, and transformation. The dramaturgy does not follow a linear narrative but instead bodily states: tension, repetition, exhaustion, and detachment.
Two Bodies, Many Stories
Ridwan Rasheed and Chiara Fersini use the expressiveness of their bodies to make visible the invisible weight of what has been left behind. Personal memories meet inherited gestures as rhythm becomes a bridge between isolation and connection. The choreographic process is also based on interviews with people who have migrated to Germany and who share stories of arrival, loss, belonging, and living between different places.
The Body as Archive
In the concentrated theater atmosphere of Tanthe, an intense stage experience about uprooting and transformation unfolds. Repetition traces a path, movement becomes language, and the stage turns into a transition space between origin and present. The lighting, acoustics, and the physical precision of the performance coalesce into a sensual evening of theater that makes inner experiences visible without codifying them.
Artistic Direction and Dramaturgy
The artistic direction is in the hands of Chiara Fersini. Choreography and performance are by Ridwan Rasheed and Chiara Fersini, with dramaturgy by Daniela Aue. The work was co-produced by Kulturwerkstatt Auf AEG. The evening is organized by Kulturforum Ansbach as part of Spiel.Werk.
An Evening about Migration, Belonging, and Liberation
A Choir of Echoes combines contemporary dance, ritual, and biographical memory into a poetic stage art. The approximately 60-minute piece focuses on the traces that migration leaves in the body – and on the possibility of finding new forms of connection through movement.
Conclusion: Dance as an Echo of Lived Life
The audience can expect a concentrated and physically powerful stage experience about home, memory, and the quest for belonging. Those who wish to experience contemporary dance as a sensual, political, and poetic form of theater will encounter a production that resonates beyond the final applause. Mark the date at Tanthe now and experience A Choir of Echoes live.
