A Choir of Echoes: When Memory Becomes Dance
In Tanthe in Ansbach, the body transforms into a memory of movement, rhythm, and silence. A Choir of Echoes by Chiara Fersini questions what people carry within themselves when they leave their homeland – and what remains when language, familiar faces, and belonging wobble.
A Choreographic Ritual Between Dance and Memory
The production combines contemporary dance with the ancient healing traditions of Southern Italy. At its core is the phenomenon of Tarantism, whose ecstatic dances perceive the body as a place of crisis, liberation, and transformation. The dramaturgy does not follow a linear narrative but through physical states: tension, repetition, exhaustion, and detachment.
Two Bodies, Many Stories
Ridwan Rasheed and Chiara Fersini depict the invisible weight of what has been left behind with their physical acting. Personal memories meet inherited gestures; rhythm becomes a bridge between isolation and connection. The choreographic process is also based on interviews with people who have migrated to Germany and share stories of arrival, loss, belonging, and life between different places.
A Production About Uprooting and Transformation
In the concentrated theatrical atmosphere of Tanthe, a stage experience arises that understands movement as language. The choreographic form makes inner experiences visible without fixating them. Repetition becomes a trace, the body an archive, and the stage a transitional space between origin and present.
Artistic Team and Dramaturgical Perspective
The artistic direction is led by Chiara Fersini. Choreography and performance come from Ridwan Rasheed and Chiara Fersini, while the dramaturgy is overseen by Daniela Aue. Co-producer is Kulturwerkstatt Auf AEG. The performance is an event of Kulturforum Ansbach as part of Spiel.Werk.
Conclusion: Dance as an Echo of Lived Life
A Choir of Echoes promises an intense stage experience about migration, memory, and the search for belonging. Those wanting to experience contemporary dance as sensual, political, and poetic stage art will encounter a production that resonates – long beyond the final applause.
